Carter Brothers 24 Foot Flatcar

This eight (8) ton flat car was built by Carter Brothers of Newark, California. They built these flats for the Monterey and Salinas Valley Railroad, the South Pacific Coast Railroad, the North Pacific Coast Railroad, and they found their way to many other western railroads.  Many of the 24' flats were rebuilt to 28' in later years, reusing the original hardware. The original trucks were generally rebuilt to ten (10) ton units at the same time that the car was lengthened.

The car is modeled as it appeared in the late 1800's or the early 1900's. All dimensions and specifications were taken off drawing by noted railway historian
Herman H. Darr.
